‘Iran, the faces of anger’

Saturday, November 9 at 10:10 pm*

Directed by: Virginie Plaut and Shooresh Afkari

Format: 45 minutes

‘Iran, the faces of anger’ offers a powerful insight into the heart of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ uprising in Iran, ignited by the tragic death of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish student, on September 16, 2022. Amini lost her life after being brutally beaten by police for having a few strands of hair escape from her veil. In the wake of this tragedy, Iranian filmmaker Shooresh Afkari reached out to his French colleague Virginie Plaut, determined to ‘fight in his own way by using what he knows best — filming and amplifying the stories he witnessed’. With the poignant footage provided by Afkari, Plaut crafted this compelling documentary in France.

This documentary serves as an intimate diary of a clandestine journey, revealing the Iranian people’s relentless pursuit of freedom. It captures their unwavering resolve to claim their rights, no matter the cost.

‘Iran, the faces of anger’ is a Reporters+ that will be broadcast on France 24’s four channels (in English, French, Arabic, and Spanish). It will also be available on YouTube and the France 24 website.
